Future Academy currently provides more than 150 children with educational, sporting and leisure activities.
Future Academy’s provision is innovative:
We focus solely on what will best equip students for the specific challenges they face. Emotional well-being and interpersonal skills are just as important as academic success. Our classes are small; we use games as a tool to improve academic performance and to build resilience - making learning active, engaging and fun
We teach functional literacy (Arabic and English) and numeracy as these are vital skills necessary for accessing further education and/or employment outside the camp.
Higher level English and Mathematics tuition and access to qualifications is available for motivated and academically able students.
PSHE and age-appropriate vocational skills provide children with the knowledge and skills to keep themselves healthy and safe; support them in making and maintaining friendships; and prepare them for life and work.
Art & craft sessions enable students to explore various creative media in a stimulating and supportive environment, while also reducing stress and anxiety. Art can be used as a powerful advocacy tool to communicate stories and as a vehicle for self-development and personal expression.
Sport provides a physical outlet for students, while teaching teamwork, leadership, resilience, accountability, respect, and patience.
Sport also has the power to create real and lasting social change; belonging to a football team can provide vulnerable teens with an alternative to gang membership and/or youth crime.
Our football academy provides students with up to 2 sessions a week. Coaching is provided by qualified local coaches; sessions focus on technical skills, teamwork, tactics and fun.
Football tournaments give students the opportunity to test themselves against others and provide a rare opportunity for Palestinian and Syrian families to socialise together. In addition to football, we also offer students table tennis and cricket.
We give students opportunities for free play and organised games because play improves the cognitive, physical, social and emotional wellbeing of young people. Through play, children learn about the world and themselves.
We provide an enrichment programme because recreational and leisure activities play an important part in communities. Their many benefits include improving the health and wellbeing of individuals; enhancing peer relationships and interpersonal skills; and promoting the development of inclusive communities.
In addition to our standard provision, we provide an outreach programme to support students who are unable to attend school classes. A scholarship programme is available to students who are aiming for higher education.
We operate for 52 weeks/year. Future Academy has a robust child protection and safeguarding policy; best practice procedures are embedded in our day-to-day activities.
Our Mission: every child that enters our school will leave with a better understanding of the world and how to access it.
